By Shenandoah Natural History Association

Issue: April, 1990

Shenandoah National Park is asking the public for assistance in developing an official logo, and has announced a Park logo contest. The prize for the winning entry will be $500.00, while the second and third place entrants will receive $250.00 and $100.00 respectively.

In announcing the Shenandoah National Park logo contest, Park Superintendent J.W. Wade said, "We know there are many people who know and love Shenandoah National Park and its world famous road, the Skyline Drive. We welcome everyone who is interested to design an appropriate logo representing this Park."

The contest will run from March 2 to May 15, 1990. Entries must be received at park Headquarters by 5:00 pm, on May 15th. Entries may be delivered or mailed to: Shenandoah National Park; Logo Contest; c/o Superintendent's Office; Route 4, Box 348; Luray, Virginia 22835-9051. The prizes are being provided by the National Park Service Cooperating Association, which administers donated funds.

Each logo should be no larger than 5 (five) inches wide and 5 (five) inches long and no smaller than 3 (three) inches wide by 3 (three) inches long. The design needs to be recognizable at less than 2" by 2."

The winners will be selected by June 30, 1990 by the voting Board Members of the Shenandoah Natural History Association (SNHA), the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent of Shenandoah National Park. Their decision shall be final.

The prizes will be the only payment for the artwork. The winning artists relinquish all claims and copyrights to Shenandoah National Park.

Shenandoah National Park reserves the right to make design modifications.

Submissions will be accepted at Park Headquarters from March 2, 1990 until 5:00 p.m., May 15, 1990. Submissions may be made in person or through the mail. Address entries to address above.
