What Does It All Mean?

By Susan M. Thigpen © 1995

Issue: Winter, 1995

In days gone by, when a boy gave flowers to a girl, it meant something. Different flowers had different meanings attached to them and relayed a secret message beyond their pretty and sweet smelling appearance. I ran across a list of ten different flowers with their meanings and thought you might like to know what grandma knew.

White Clover - Think of me.

Sweet Pea - Depart or I leave you.

White Hyacinth - Your beauty is recognized.

Ivy - I cling to you.

White Rose - I will be worthy of you.

Peach Blossom - I am captivated by you.

Four-leaf Clover - Be mine.

Goldenrod - Be on your guard

Fern - You fascinate me.

Geranium - I wish to console you.
