[Dear Editor,]

I am researching my paternal history. Would anyone have any information about Peter Cruise, born June 29, 1813? He was married to Elizabeth (Betsy) Hylton of Floyd County on October 22, 1846. She was the daughter of Valentine Hylton and Rebecca Authur (Auter). Peter Cruise was the son of John Cruise and Mary Martin, possibly of Patrick County.

Thank you,

Rozalia Cruise Hogg

[Dear Editor,]

I had a great-uncle that visited a lot of families and homes in Patrick County, Dr. John Kerr Martin. I would love to know about him and the J.F. Harris family. Dr. Martin was a captain in the Civil War and was wounded in the battle of Gettysburg, having his leg shot off. He died in Draper-Spray (now Eden) North Carolina. I found the death certificate but not the grave. I would like to put a marker on the grave. Could anyone help me? Some of his papers and things are in the Patrick County Museum at Stuart, Virginia. He was a member of the Old Doctors of Virginia. My earliest memories are of him. My father was born at Vesta, Va. and moved to Mt. Airy, N.C. in 1900.

Sincerely,

Ruth M. Ferguson
