The listing of Civil War soldiers contains over 1,400 names.

1/3/00- This is a request for information about Clarence Hodges, born in Floyd County in the 1870's or 1880's. He was a sharecropper and had 13 children in various locations before settling down in Henry County in the 1930's. His father was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, also from Floyd County. They would be my paternal grandfather and great-grandfather, respectively. Also, any information about the Cockram family from the Charity section of Patrick County would be appreciated. These are relatives on my mother's side of the family.

1/24/00- My great-grandmother's name is Margaret Warren Rogers. She married Hilliard Rogers in Wake, NC on Oct. 12, 1858. Hilliard was born in 1843 in Wake, NC. I don't know much about either grandparent. I believe Hilliard met Margaret in Wythe, VA. He was a NC Confederate (Private) and enlisted in service at age 18 in 1862 in Wake County, NC. He was captured at the South Side Railroad near Petersburg, VA on April 2, 1865. I believe he met Margaret sometime in between. She brought him food and hid him in the old Shot Tower in VA during the Civil War. He was possibly injured at that time. She went with him throughout the war. They had a son, John Rogers, who had 3 sons and a daughter. The only clue I have for Margaret Warren is the Shot Tower incident. If anyone has any info on any "Warrens" in that area, please e-mail me.

Thanks

2/2/00- Researching family info on JOHN JAMES HOLLAND (b @1859) and JULIA PATTON HANNAH (b 21 Sep1871 Eagle Rock, Virginia, daughter of SAMUEL HANNAH and EDNA THOMAS) who conceived a child EMMER VIOLA HOLLAND (b 25 Nov1890 Clifton Forge, Virginia).

Family gossip has it that JOHN JAMES HOLLAND was from a Virginia family of  means, including plantations and diamond mine connections, who was disowned for marrying a child (JULIA PATTON HANNAH was 13 years old, 12 years his younger) of no means - from common stock.

JOHN JAMES HOLLAND abandoned his family @1908 in Deepwater (Fayette County) WV and reportedly worked for the railroad as a detective and later died from alledged gunshot injuries received in the line of duty.

All lineages contained here-in represent a dead-end in a nearly completed family tree of 21 generations.

2/3/00- I am trying to find the parents of my husband's ancestor, Daniel Caylor/Kaylor of Washington Co. Va. Daniel b. 1759 in Virginia and d. 1854 in Washington Co. Va. Married Elizabeth Weeks, d/o John Weeks and wife Elizabeth. Daniel's daughter, Elizabeth Kaylor married Andrew E. Lewis as his first wife. She died 4th July, 1846; he married wife 2, Sarah Smiley, in Wash. Co.

Other names I'm stuck on are William Cannaday, in 1787, in Franklin Co, Va; Nathan Basham whose estate was settled in 1850 in Boone Co. Va; Jordan Smith b. ca. 1780 was a soldier in War of 1812, mar/1 Mary Austin, mar/2 Millie McCormick, mar/3 Lucinda Lacy. Will share any and all info when possible.

I am trying to find the parents of Mary Hale who married Peter Sigmon ca. 1780 or earlier and probably in Maryland for Peter Sigmon moved to Franklin (then Henry Co) Virginia from Maryland in the 1780's, maybe soon after he married. Other Hales lived in the area so probably they are Mary's relatives. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have oodles of ancestry in the Blue Ridge area so you might want to see my home sites for surnames: http://maxpages.com/ancestral and http://home.switchboard.com/billiereddinglewis

2/4/00- Searching for any information on my third gr-grandparents who settled in  Franklin Co. Va. I know who the children of Isaac and Hannah were, my g-g-grandparents Moses and Margaret Dixon Janney, and Burwell and Mary Radford Janney my gr-grandparents and my grandparents Robert and Mary Elizabeth Janney.

What I am especially searching for is the surname of Hannah that I might gain   some insight on her side of my family. Isaac and Hannah were married in 1773 in Pa.

They were in Montgomery Co. in 1782 and in Franklin Co. by 1786. In 1793 they purchased land from David Barton. Hannah started paying taxes in 1805 so Isaac must have died in 1804/05 before taxes were due. It is hard for me to believe that no one kept any family records or Bibles. I would be so grateful for any info on this family.

2/7/00- What a great surprise to run across the Mountain Laurel Site. I was born in Meadows of Dan, Va., went to High School there, first going to the Lawson School my father, Turner Madison Lawson, helped build on land and with lumber he donated until the new High School could be built. I finished my education by graduating from the Townson University in Baltimore, Md. but I love reading the stories about my roots. You are doing a great job. I wish I had your back publications.

I am presently searching for the parents of my great grandfather William "Billy" Lawson who was one of the first settlers in Meadows of Dan, Va., so I am very excited to find this site, and I hope that someone will have the information I seek. I am filled with pride when I read the stories and I know personally what good people live in and around Meadows of Dan, Va. Thank you.

2/7/00- Hi, My name is Dee Beaman-Heroux. My maiden name is Pruitt. I was told by my father, Charlie H. Pruitt, (many years ago) that he and his people came from Stokes County, North Carolina and many were from the Blue Ridge Mt. area. He told me that the Pruitt family split up during the Civil War due to some of the 5 or 7 brothers were selling horses to the Union Army. I feel that this must have some truth to it as most of my information stops during that time frame. My father was the son of Benjamin and Sarah "Throckmorton" Pruitt of Stokes Co. Benjamin Pruitt was the son of James Olivier Pruitt (some refer to him as Jacob Pruitt) and Elizabeth Nancy Fry (Stokes Co.) James Olivier Pruitt was the son of William ? & Mary ? Pruitt. Can anyone help me with this lineage of Pruitt's? My records indicate that William Pruitt had 5 sons...One being James Olivier Pruitt...

Help? and Thanks, Dee Beaman-Heroux, e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

2/28/00- My name is Katie Wilson Endreson and currently serve as Historian of the Wilson Family Association, Est., 1933, Iowa. From the work that has been done on our lineage, it seems that our family was in Virginia 1600-1700 time span. I recently published our lineage - The Wilson Genealogy Book - last year. It documents from 1800 to present time.

I am sure that we are missing some of our lineage since we start with John McGrew Wilson, son of Isaac Wilson, b 1800 d 1862 m 1824 Hannah Brewster Hubbard. I'm sure that Isaac had brothers and sisters and also additional children. This is the task that I am now trying to document. I found some information when I researched the Scots-Irish in Virginia, Vol 1,2,3. I found that Isaac was married to Ann States, daughter of John States. I know this is not much to go by, but do you have information on the surname Wilson?

His son William married Rosannah Heard in 1786 and their marriage is recorded in Henry Co., but I am not sure why. Joseph Anthony was the minister.

I wrote a book DESCENDANTS OF DOSWELL ROGERS. However, I was never able to get any further than Doswell. He ran around with the Heard, Walling, Roberts, Blevins families. Any information would be appreciated as I am trying to find his roots.

11/15/00- My grandmother has been telling me of a Blackman by the name of "January" possibly an escaped slave. It is said that he arrived at this name by the Native Indians with whom he lived. They gave him this name because January was when he reached their settlement.

Monroe County, West Virginia  is where these particular Indians are said to be from. He lived with the tribe until his death and is buried somewhere there. According to her there are no markings or grave site. I was hoping that there is some information that could help locate his grave or verify any of this?

Perhaps there are records or data or information that, if true, could shed some light on the matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you in advance for your time, consideration, cooperation and effort!
