The Day The Preacher Came To Dinner

By Rachel Poff © 1988

Issue: April, 1988

Back in the 1930's when I was growing up in Franklin County, Virginia my parents and I attended a church called "Canton Creek."

The pastor's name was Mr. Upsey Young. One Sunday the preacher and his wife came home with us for lunch.

When we all sat down to eat, my father sat across from the preacher and his wife. While we were eating my father thought his little dog was under the table and he started kicking him, hoping he would leave but the dog didn't move. Finally my father looked under the table and discovered he had been kicking the preacher's wife. That was so embarrassing.
