Old Dog

By C. David Hay © 1988

An Excerpt from the book, "Wings of the Mind."

Issue: April, 1988

He's been my buddy for many years
Though we never spoke a word,
And his wrinkled face and drooping ears
Make him look a bit absurd.

He was most afraid of anything
That walked or crawled or flew,
But he bluffed his way with a mighty bay
As only a hound can do.

Now his face is gray and his eyes are dim
And he walks with a limp and a sag,
But he welcomes me in the same old way
With that look and weary wag
That says he's my friend till his dying day -
And that's all old dogs need to say.
